Alice Whittome (1867-1907) was born in Hilgay, Norfolk, in 1867. She became a nurse, training either at the London Hospital or Great Ormond Street, and worked for the King's physician. She became a missionary with the China Inland Mission in 1903, and sailed from Potsmouth in September of the same year. She was stationed at Chin-kiang, where the mission had a sanatorium and hospital for the Chinese. At the time of her death in 1907, she was at Chefoo, where she had gone to help in the Mission Hospital and compound.
