Scope and Content

The will of William Richards of Cambridge, leather cutter. He leaves to his wife Jane a life interest in his Cambridge and Barton property. After Jane's death, one messuage in Silver St currently occupied by Samuel Pont, tailor, is to go to his daughter Elizabeth, wife of Joseph Orm of London, brushmaker, and thereafter to Elizabeth's daughter Mary. A further two messuages in the same street currently occupied by Mr Bottomley, stonecutter, and Mrs Blake, widow, are to go to another daughter Jane, wife of John Sharp of Cambridge, gent He leaves to his son William Richards all his lands in Burwell, Cambridgeshire, thus discharging the remainder of his marriage portion. After his wife's death, all his lands in Barton, Cambridgeshire, are to go to another daughter Susanna, wife of John Thetford of London, gent. Everything else goes to his wife, who is appointed sole executrix. Copy for probate. Signed by Richards, witnessed by William Mott, notary public, Charles Martindale, and William Mott jnr. Certificate of probate attached, dated 31 May 1762, signed by William Mott, seal of the archdeaconry of Ely, duty stamps. Administration granted to Jane Richards.
