Edward Hyde, Earl of Clarendon: History of the Rebellion and Civil Wars in Ireland

Scope and Content

Two copies of Lord Clarendon's History of the rebellion and civil wars in Ireland, titled a 'Short View of the State and Condition of Ireland from the Year 1640 to this Time'. One is an anonymous copy of 87 folios. On p. 170: 'Robt. Taylor' (c. 1690). Outside the back cover: 'Sir Arthur Achison, Bart.' (19th century). The second is an imperfect copy of 45 folios. This copy breaks off at the head of p. 95 of the printed edition. A contemporary hand has noted the name of the author in the margin at the head of fo. 1, and made marginal notes, among them being frequent references under the head 'Burt' to Edmund Borlase's History of the Irish rebellion (1662).
