Address: 86 Belsize Park Gardens, London NW. To Professor [Herbert Somerton] Foxwell, Cambridge. 'The ed of Bills of Mortality you should use was compiled by Dr. Birch, as one time Sec of Royal Soc, of which he wrote a hist. The "J.P. Esqre" referred to in the preface is James Postlethwayte. He is supposed to have calculated the table of probability contained in the work. Dr. Heberden, a very active medical practitioner of that period is upposed to have collected the materials for the vol.'
