Administrative / Biographical History

The parish of Llanfachreth, Merioneth was administered as part of Dolgellau rural district and union, under the jurisdiction of Tal-y-bont, petty sessional division. In common with other parishes it was a civil as well as ecclesiastical administrative unit. The parish was a major instrument of local government with responsibility for poor relief, highways and law and order, which continued until local government reforms in the late nineteenth century.

Rate books were compiled to record details of the rates collected in a particular area.
