Two mounted photographs: B.D. Burtt at Galapo (October 1933), and C.F.M. Swynnerton working in the boma at Old Shinyanga (ca.1936).

Administrative / Biographical History

Bernard Dearman Burtt (1902-1938), botanist.

Charles Francis Massy Swynnerton (1877-1938), CMG (1937), was educated at Lancing College. He farmed for many years in Southern Rhodesia and was the first Game Warden of Tanganyika Territory (1919-1929). In 1929 he was appointed as Director of Tsetse Research in Tanganyika Territory. His publications include: Some traps for Tsetse-flies(1933) and The tsetse flies of East Africa: a first study of their ecology, with a view to their control(1936) .
