Papers of Cadwaladr Jones, dissenting preacher

Scope and Content

A typescript copy of a certificate submitted by the minister (William Thomas) and five members of the Llanuwchllyn Congregational Church (Hen Gapel) to the Justices of the Peace at the Merionethshire Quarter Session, June 1807, testifying to the fitness and qualifications of Cadwaladr Jones of Deildre, Llanuwchllyn to be a dissenting preacher. Also, the request of Cadwaladr Jones to be admitted to take oath and subscribe the Declarations required by Act of Parliament to qualify him a dissenting preacher.

An accompanying letter, 1928 from W. Maelor Owen to W. Pari Huws suggests that the document be reproduced in Y Dysgedydd.

Administrative / Biographical History

Cadwaladr Jones, 1783-1867, was ordained in 1811 and became pastor at Dolgellau and Islaw'r-dref, Merioneth. He was the editor of Y Dysgedydd for 30 years.
