Administrative / Biographical History
The Defence Studies Dining Club was started in about 1965 by G.J. Eltringham, The University ofNottingham's Deputy Registrar. The intention was to bring together academics and serving members ofthe armed forces to discuss topics of common interest. Generally between 40 and 100 members of theclub met once a month for an evening meal followed by a defence-related talk and discussion.After-dinner talks were given by eminent representatives of the armed forces. The venue for theseevents was the University's Portland building. The club was still in existence in 1997.
