John Phillips was a Calvinistic Methodist minister and the first Principal of the Normal College, Bangor. He was born in 1810, a native of Pontrhydfendigaid, Cardiganshire and died in 1867. He married Eleanor Parry of Llaneugrad, Anglesey and from that marriage had five children.
The determination of John Phillips led to the establishment of the Normal College in Bangor which opened in 1863.
