Recipe book of Caroline Waeick, 1839

Scope and Content

The volume describes over 150 recipes in 189 manuscript pages. In addition, there are ten loose sheets of paper recording further recipes for preparing certain food and drinks, in the same hand; and an index of the contents of the volume in a later hand. The recipes in the collection cover all types of cooking and preparation of food, including fruit preservation, fish and meat dishes, puddings, wine and beer.

Administrative / Biographical History

The volume was given to Caroline Waeick on 20 May 1839, by her mother. The contents appear to be in one hand, presumably that of Caroline's mother. Caroline Waeick has not yet been identified, although records of births, marriages and deaths in England and Wales reveal only a few entries for this surname during the nineteenth century, all in the London area.
