Scope and Content

Thomas Eaton of Bulmer, Essex, son and heir of Thomas Eaton late of Swaffham Bulbeck, Cambridgeshire, sells to James Salt of Chesterton Cambridgeshire, certain land in Swaffham Prior for the term of one thousand years at a peppercorn rent; if Thomas Eaton pays a certain sum by a certain date, the agreement together with a certain surrender of copyhold land held of the Manor of Swaffham Prior, being also part of the security for a certain sum, shall be void. Witnesses: William Mott Notary Public, George Haggis. On the back is a receipt for the consideration money signed by Thomas Eaton. Date: the same. Witnesses: the same. Part of the seal is attached. On the back is a Deed Poll as follows: Whereas James Salt is dead and James Salt of Abingdon, Cambridgeshire, is his executor; and whereas Thomas Eaton has agreed to sell the lands in question to Benjamin Barker of Swaffham Bulbeck, Cambridgeshire; and whereas James Salt having been paid the sum due to him by the mortgage has agreed to assign his interest to a trustee of Benjamin Barker's; James Salt assigns his interest to John Haggerston of Cambridge for the remainder of the term in trust for the use of Benjamin Barker. Witness: Thomas Bullen of Cambridge. Three seals are attached.

Purchased from John Whitaker, Cambridge (from Hove, Sussex) 13 August 1917 (With this cf Add 5958(14), the original of which was bought from E. Williams, 37 New Town, Hove, Sussex. Mr Whitaker's lot from Hove presumably came from the same vendor.
