Records of The University of Nottingham's Sutton Bonington Guild of Students, 1957-1975

Scope and Content

The collection consists of five volumes of minutes of The University of Nottingham Sutton Bonington Guild of Students (Faculty Board until March 1962). 1957-1975.

Administrative / Biographical History

The University of Nottingham's Sutton Bonington Guild of Students has its origins in the School of Agricultural Science student faculty committee, which met for the first time in the school's Union Room in October 1957. The committee adopted the role of representing students at the university's agricultural sciences teaching faculty at Sutton Bonington, Nottinghamshire. At the time, the organisation of the university's Students' Union included committees representing students within particular teaching faculties and Agriculture was one of them. In March 1962, the committee was renamed the 'Guild Committee' but its role remained unchanged. The Guild became increasingly autonomous and although it remains associated to the union, it organises its own events, sports programme and student support network.
