The collection consists of the diaries of Reverend David Hughes, from 1884 to 1920 (with a few gaps) including accounts of his university life at Edinburgh and as minister at Caernarfon, recording details of home life, church meetings and incidental references to happenings in the town etc.

Reverend David Hughes, M.A. was pastor of the Presbyterian Church, Castle Square, Caernarfon in the county of Caernarfonshire (now known as Gwynedd). He was a native of the Llanberis district; a graduate of Edinburgh University and was for some years minister at Rhiwlas and Pentir, Caernarfonshire till he moved to Castle Square in 1892.
