Administrative / Biographical History
David Davies and Company started sinking the Maindy pit in 1864and the pit started full production in 1866. In 1887 Davies formed the Ocean Coal Company Limited to control his mining interests.
Following Nationalisation in 1947 Maindy Ocean Colliery was placed in the National Coal Board's South Western Division's Area No. 3.
In 1948 the colliery was closed down.
