Family Papers and Historical Notes of Frank Hays, Jacksdale, Nottinghamshire, 1882-1943

Scope and Content

This small collection concerns the life and career of Frank Hays. It includes papers covering the purchase of a lot at Jacksdale, Nottinghamshire and the erection of a house there, together with material about the administration of several family wills. There are also papers relating to his work with the Co-Operative Society. Of special interest are the historical notes kept by Mr Hays, and his account of his trip to London in 1897 to watch the Queen Victoria's Jubilee celebrations.

Administrative / Biographical History

Frank Hays apparently lived and worked in the small Nottinghamshire community of Jacksdale. No biographical detail is available about him, beyond what can be gleaned from the remains of his personal archive, which records his purchase of land for a house at Jacksdale in 1890, and provides information about other family members. The papers show that he had an interest in local historical research and occasionally gave talks through the Co-operative movement on a variety of topics.

Arrangement

Material is arranged according to form (e.g. historical papers, family papers), and then ordered chronologically.
