Administrative / Biographical History

Lord Lovat took part in the Jacobite rebellion of 1745 and was impeached by the House of Lords. He was executed on Tower Hill, London, on 9th April 1747. His son, whom he had involved in the rebellion was pardoned in 1750 and was granted his father's forfeited lands in 1774.

The National Archives of Scotland hold an accountant's report on the forfeited estates and the claims of creditors (Ref: CS96/1455); Inverness Museum and Art Gallery contains family and estate papers of the Fraser family of Lovat.

Conditions Governing Use

Copies may be made, subject to the condition of the original. Copying must be undertaken by the Palaeography Room staff, who will need a minimum of 24 hours to process requests.
