Scope and Content

Freeman Cawthorne of Chatteris, farmer, surrenders by the hands of Robert Grimditch esq and Robert Warth, his 6 acres of fen or marsh ground in Sutton North Fen held copyhold of the manor of Sutton (which he purchased from Thomas Maylin) to the use of William Dunn of Chatteris, gent, and his heirs, with the proviso that if Cawthorne pays Dunn #30 plus interest on 16 Nov 1785 according to the provisions of a bond bearing even date, then this surrender shall be void. Copy, (copied) signatures of Freeman Cawthorn, Grimditch and Warth certifying that the original surrender was taken by them on the above date; endorsed in red: 'Maylins Lot', also: 'Discharged 24 August 1790 / W[illiam] D[unn]' (see Doc 1777).
