Letters to Siegfried Sassoon; together with related ephemera

Scope and Content

A collection of 1094 letters, postcards and other items known as 'Sassoon's residual correspondence' although it does also include a number of items addressed to other persons particularly to his wife, Hester, and his mother, Theresa Thornycroft.

Arrangement

Most of the letters (numbers 1-980) are arranged alphabetically by writer; at the end are sections for unidentified letters (numbers 981-1014), letters congratulating Sassoon on the award of the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry 1957 (numbers 1015-1044), letters to Hester Sassoon and members of the Gatty family (numbers 1045-1063), and miscellaneous odds and ends (numbers 1064-1094).
