Cadwaladr Jones, Ffestiniog Papers

Scope and Content

A collection of diaries, 1854-1891. The entries are quite sparse with details of preachers and their subjects, notes on chapel members and much information on deaths and burials, some of which occurred at local quarries. One entry made in April 1854 refers to 32 people leaving for America.

In addition, four books consisting of musical notation, described as Llyfrau Pricio. The compositions are mostly of a religious nature. One, bears the name of John Cadwaladr, and the other of Hugh Roberts, Llanrug, 1838.

Administrative / Biographical History

Cadwaladr Jones of Pen-y-ffridd, Ffestiniog, Merioneth was a zealous Congregationalist and one of the main supporters of the cause in Ffestiniog. No further biographical information was available at time of compilation of description.

Acquisition Information

Items 4756-4759 were donated by Mr J. W. Jones, Minffordd, Ffestiniog, in November 1942, whilst items 4765-4787 were the gift of Mrs Ann Vaughan Lewis, niece of Cadwaladr Jones.
