Reports from the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England on listed ancient monuments in Nottinghamshire, c.1950

This small collection comprises surveys of listed ancient monuments for Nottinghamshire, made up of a series of pro-forma sheets, with either handwritten or typescript entries. A section of the relevant Ordnance Survey map accompanies most sheets, with the monument outlined in red and numbered, and nearby monuments outlined in black and numbered.

Each proforma sheet contains the following sections: county; name of monument; parish; local authority; county number of monument; Ordnance Survey 6 inch sheet number; name and address of owner; short description of monument and its condition; and references to principal works dealing with the monument.

The numerical sequence is not complete. The monuments referred to are County Numbers 12A, 13, 21-23, 25-36, 38A, 38B, 40, 42-49, 51-53, 55-61, 63-67, 96-97 and 99-103 (principally medieval buildings and earthworths).

The Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England was set up to compile and assess, curate and make available the national record of England's ancient monuments and historic buildings for the use of individuals and bodies concerned with understanding, interpreting and managing the historic environment. In 1999, the Royal Commission merged with English Heritage. Since 2015, details of monuments have been held by the Historic England Archive.
