Edith Madge Barling (b c 1888), one of two daughter of Sir (Harry) Gilbert Barling (1855-1940) and Katharine Jaffray (nee Edmunds, d 1920). Sir Gilbert Barling was surgeon at the General Hospital, Birmingham, 1891-1915, Professor of Surgery, University of Birmingham 1893-1912 and then vice-chancellor and then pro-chancellor, 1913-33
