The Antonio Carluccio Library and Archive

Scope and Content

The personal library and archive of Commendatore Antonio Carluccio OBE, which is particularly strong in the areas of Italian regional cuisine, mushrooms and foraging. The archive comprises Antonio Carluccio's book drafts, research notes, promotional material for The Neal Street Restaurant and Carluccio's, material relating to his work on television, and personal mementos including photographs.

Administrative / Biographical History

Antonio Carluccio was born in 1937 in southern Italy. After a successful career in wine importing, Antonio was offered the chance to run The Neal Street Restaurant which he managed from Nov 1981. He bought the restaurant in 1989 and opened the first Carluccio's (a deli) next door in 1991. He continued to manage the restaurant until its closure in 2012. He published over 20 books on Italian cuisine and mushrooms over his career and appeared in several television shows focussing on Italian cooking as well as appearing regualrly on the BBC's Food and Drink. Antonio died on 8 November 2017 at the age of 80.

All users external to the University are required to register before using the collections. Collections must be viewed in the Special Collections Reading Room and users must abide by the Reading Room regulations.

The collection was transferred from The Antonio Carluccio Foundation.
