The Paget Family has been connected with Plas Newydd, Llanedwen, Anglesey since the marriage in 1737 of Nicholas Bayly of Anglesey (d. 1782) and Caroline Paget of Staffordshire (d. 1766), which united two of the most influential families in Britain. Their second son and heir Henry Bayly (1744-1812) took the name Paget on succeeding to the barony of Beaudesert, Staffordshire in 1769 and was created earl of Uxbridge in 1784. His eldest son and successor Henry William Paget (1768-1854) had a military career and was created first Marquess of Anglesey in 1815 for his success on the battlefield. He was MP for Caernarfon as were his brothers Edward and Charles, two other brothers William and Berkeley (1750-1842) represented Anglesey in parliament.
