Parliamentary Proceedings

The volume contains an account of proceedings in the tumultuous Parliamentary session of 1628/9, together with other related documents concerning the recall of Henry Cary, Viscount Falkland, from Ireland, and the arrest and imprisonment of several rebellious Members of Parliament, including Sir Peter Heyman, Sir John Eliot, Sir Miles Hobart and Denzil Holles:

• folio 1: The proceedings or a journall of the passages in the Second Session to parliament holden at Westminster in ye 4th yeare of the raigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles, by ye grace of God, King of England, Scotland, France and Ireland, Defendor of ye Faith, etc., begun ye 20th of January and ended the10th March Ano: Domini 1628[/29]. This is a copy of A true relation of every days proceedings in Parliament;
• folio 69: A petition against the precedencie of the Scottish and Iris nobillitie;
• folio 72: A copie of the apologie of the Lord Viscount Faulkeland, Lord Deputie of Ireland, to the Lords of His Mates Privie Councell;
• folio 80: a brief account of the examinations of Sir Peter Heyman, Sir John Eliot, Sir Miles Hobart and Denzil Holles;
• folios 82-5 are blank.

Purchased by John Rylands Library from the bookseller G.H. Last of Bromley, Kent, in December 1938 (Catalogue 239, No. 702).

St John's College, Cambridge, holds an artificial collection of miscellaneous political and religious tracts and other papers, including A Journall or Diary of the most materiall Passages propounded, and Discussed in the Second Session of the Lower House of Parliament holden at Westminster continued the xxth Day of January 1628 in the fourth yeare of the Raigne of King Charles, and dissolved the 10th day of March Anno Dni 1628... (ref.: GB 275 S.26.3 (James 418)).
