Words by Lewis Allen, music by Lehman Engel. Lehman Engel (1910-1982), was a well-known American composer for the stage (see Oxford Companion to Music, Grove's Dictionary etc), as well as being an author and conductor. He collaborated with Allen on a number of scores.

Custodial History
It is suspected that this score came by the same route as the Haufrecht correspondence, through the Department of Music. From Haufrecht, due to the letters from Allen in that series. It carries a signature on the title page, 'Felix Brentano' and the address 113W57St, NYC and the date 4/25/54.
