Thomas Clutterbuck: Sermons

Scope and Content

A collection of sermons preached by Thomas Clutterbuck on various occasions at Southampton, 269 folios. In several cases the date the sermon was delivered is given at the conclusion: (P. i) 'The Sermons in this book are but short notes out of others wrote at large in quarto', in the hand of T. Clutterbuck. There is also an entry concerning Clutterbuck's birth; (p. ii) autobiographical notes in the hand of T. Clutterbuck; (p. iv) 'J. Raine York, March 19, 1862. Bought at the sale of the books of Mr Ward of Worth. The author of these sermons became Chancellor of York in 1660'; (p. vi) various prayers in the hand of T. Clutterbuck; (p. 1) sermons; (p. 476) 'Wm Lucas wrote that that follows' (18th century); (p. 511) notes on thunderstorms occuring between 1733 and 1793, in the hand of W. Lucas; (p. 517) receipt for inflammation of the eyes, Scriptural texts, and notes, in the hand of T. Clutterbuck.
