Administrative / Biographical History

Adrian Edward Dudman worked for Toc H for most of his career. He began working for the movement in 1965, moving to Durham to run services and projects whilst supporting the local branches as the North East Region Manager. He continued in this role until he was promoted to the global position of General Secretary in 1982. The family moved to Wendover, in Buckinghamshire, and into the Toc H house that was next door to the UK headquarters.

Adrian's job with Toc H took him around the world, notably at times to Germany to undertake forces work, as well as around the UK in a senior leadership role alongside John Hull and Colin Rudd (National Chaplains) and the CEO John Mitchell. In circa 1990 Adrian and his wife moved to Malvern, Worcestershire and remained working for Toc H in a regional role whilst maintaining some pastoral and leadership tasks. He retired circa 1995.

Adrian's work meant he had a huge impact on many of all ages and was widely respected for his commitment and love of Toc H, prompted by its ethos and values, and by a personal meeting with Tubby Clayton in his youth. He was a key influencer in Toc H's significant growth and development during the last four decades of the 20th century. He was a pioneer in areas such as mental health support and tackling inner city poverty.

After his retirement, he continued to support Toc H in a small voluntary role, most notably helping at the setup and start of Khasdobir, the school under the skies in Bangladesh, started by Peter East, another former colleague and employee of Toc H. Adrian served on the Khasdobir management committee as a volunteer and assisted with fundraising.
