Custodial History

The collection consists chiefly of papers acquired by John Packer secretary of the Duke of Buckingham, including some which came to him when he acquired the estate of Hackness in Yorkshire. These papers, or part of them, descended with Hackness to the Hobys and Sydenhams in 1640, in 1707 to John van den Bempde, and then to the Pitts of Boconnoc.
