The collection contains papers from Swann's period of employment in industry as well as from hislater academic career. It has been divided into the following principal series:
- Papers accumulated by Swann during his employment at the Brush Electrical Engineering CompanyLimited. They include a file of data forms concerning DC Motors or Dynamos together with printeddiagrams, articles and research papers. 1931-1944 (SSW 1);
- Papers compiled by Swann during his employment at the University of Nottingham. They includeresearch notes and papers; manuscript lecture notes; occasional correspondence; and printed articlesand diagrams. Also present is a typescript article by Swann entitled: 'Features relative to themechanical design and construction of commutators.' 1944-1967 (SSW 2).
