John W. Stacpoole (fl 1926-1996) was educated at Sedburgh School and MagdalenCollege, Oxford, then undertook military service, 1944-1947, rising to the rankof lieutenant. He was made Assistant Principal, Colonial Office in 1951 andPrincipal, 1956. He served as Assistant Private Secretary to the Secretaryof State, 1954-1956, was seconded to Sierra Leone, 1956-1958, was PrivateSecretary to the Secretary of State, 1964-1965, and Assistant Secretary,1965.
