Bangor Orchestral Society Minute Book

Scope and Content

Minute book of the Bangor Orchestral Society, 1921-1947.

Administrative / Biographical History

On the 20th of April 1921 Mr E. T. Davies, Director of Music at the University College of North Wales summoned a General Meeting for the purpose of arranging the formation of an orchestra in connection with the College Musical Department. The management of the orchestral society was to be in the hands of the Director of Music of the College with the assistance of a Committee composed of the Principal, two members appointed by the College Senate and three persons, not members of the College, elected by members of the society.

In a meeting held on 14 October 1946 it was recorded that the College Authorities did not really recognise the Orchestra as being part of the Music Dept, and in reality it was a gathering of friends from outside.
