Minute books of the Forest Town Branch of the Labour Party; 1960-1978

Scope and Content

The collection comprises two hard-backed minute books recording meetings of the branch. The entries are written in manuscript and signed by the Chairman. They refer to meetings from 17 Feb. 1960 to 29 Oct. 1967 (MS 778/1) and 19 Nov. 1967 to 12 Mar. 1978 (MS 778/2).

Administrative / Biographical History

This local branch of the Labour Party was known as the East Ward Labour Party until May 1975. It proposed candidates and fought elections for the East Ward of Mansfield Woodhouse Urban District Council until the Council's abolition in 1974, and then for the Forest Town Ward of Mansfield District Council. It also supported Labour Party candidates for the parliamentary constituency of Mansfield, and campaigned on local issues.
