Catalogue of Saul's Collection of Cypraea

Scope and Content

The volume contains a catalogue of the shells belonging to the genus Cypraea preserved in the University Museum of Zoology, Cambridge in 1923, previously obtained from Jane Saul. The species and locality of the specimens are noted on 11 pages of this volume.

Jane Saul (1807-1895) had a large and famous collection of shells, which she bequeathed to the University of Cambridge in 1895.

Administrative / Biographical History

Hugh Coomber Fulton (1861-1942) worked as an assistent to the Sowerby family, who had a business of selling natural history specimens specialising in shells. He took over the business in 1916. He also collected molluscs privately.

Manuscripts can be consulted on appointment only. The Museum of Zoology is open Monday to Friday 9:00 to 17:00. Access and reproduction is at the discretion of the Archivist.
