Bushnell Papers

Scope and Content

Papers of and relating to Bert Bushnell in respect of his war service with the 2nd/2nd (South Midland) Field Ambulance, Royal Army Military Corps and of his employment as a library assistant at the University of Birmingham

These papers include copies of a trench magazine, 'The Linseed Lance', of which he was a co-editor, war service photographs and photographs and prints of the interior of the University's libraries

Administrative / Biographical History

George Herbert (Bert) Bushnell was an assistant in the University of Birmingham's Library in Edmund Street both before and after the war. He was appointed as librarian at the University of St Andrews in 1924 where he remained until his retirement in 1961.

He served with the 2nd/2nd (South Midland) Field Ambulance, Royal Army Military Corps and was co-editor of the 'Linseed Lance'. He also acted as an interpreter - he was a member of the League of Interpreter - and at one time was an official war artist.
