Scope and Content

In consideration of 5s, Joahana Swann of Cambridge, widow, John Swann [jnr] of Cambridge, milkman, and Edward Preston of Barnwell, victualler, lease three new tenements built to replace buildings destroyed by fire, and another tenement, the ground floor of which is used as a baker's shop, all on the Newmarket Road, and currently occupied by Messrs Rowell, Bradford, Walkin, Aves, Whyman, and Barrow, together with a further two tenements and a farm building with adjoining land in Brick Kiln Lane, currently occupied by Messrs Palfrey and Mason, for one year to Joseph Matthews of St Peter's, Barnwell, at peppercorn rent as first stage in process of lease and release. Release: Doc 3753. Indenture, signed and sealed by all three lessors (Joahana Swann makes mark), witnessed by Thomas Allen; duty stamp. Parchment supplied by Morris of Bermondsey, engraving by Silvester of The Strand.
