Administrative / Biographical History

The Jordanhill Archive was founded in 1983 as a special collection within Jordanhill Library. It contains material relating to the history of the Jordanhill College of Education and its antecedent institutions, together with other educational papers.

Jordanhill Hostels Association was founded in 1932 after Douglas House Hostel was opened on the Jordanhill Campus. Initially the hostels were occupied by women students only. Many of the girls were from the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, some having left home for the first time, and there was a strong sense of community. The Hostels Association flourished for over 60 years, published a regular newsletter and held annual reunions at Jordanhill, which were attended by the Principal and a number of College staff. Jordanhill Hostels Association wound up in June 1993 in this form, although mini reunions were planned to continue in various locations.
