Scope and Content

'Narrative of an excursion to Scotland in the month of July 1849 by one of Her Majesty's Servants'.

A dedication at the beginning claims the account was written for another's amusement, to explain how the writer accompanied another unnamed person from London on a mission to Tullyallan House, near Falkirk, the seat of Baroness Keith, Countess of Flahault, then carried on alone on a trip around Scotland. A journey 'comprising Edinburgh, Stirling, Glasgow, Loch Lomond [Stirlingshire], Loch Katrine [Perthshire], the Trossachs [Perthshire], Falls of the Clyde [sic], Oban [Argyllshire], Staffa [Argyllshire], Iona [Argyllshire] and Skye [Invernesshire]'. Includes an account of a passage on the steamer Tartar. Indexed.
