Scope and Content

Administrative / Biographical History

Cymdeithas y Gronyn Gwenith, the "Wheat Grain Society" is believed to have been established in 1977. It's aim, initially, was to perform annual pageants in Seilo Theatre in Caernarfon, Gwynedd in order to present the heritage of Wales in a religious and cultural way and to introduce the gospel in a modern and entertaining way. As an amateur theatre society, it received no financial support and attracted audiences of between 1,500 and 2,000 for a week, every year, for at least a decade.

Amongst the subjects dramatised by the society were George M.Ll. Davies (1880 - 1949), a Welsh pacifist, Rev. Tom Nefyn Williams, and the growth of Christianity in Caernarfon.
