Deeds and related documents of the Plas yn Dre estate, Bala, Merionethshire, 1509-1884.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Plas yn Dre estate, Bala, Merionethshire, was held by the Lloyd family from the late 17th century. The estate included land in the parishes of Llanfor, Llanycil and Llandderfel. The Lloyd family were a branch of the Lloyd family of Rhiwaedog. Simon Lloyd of Rhiwwaedog (d. 1711) bought Plas yn Dre. He left the estate to his second son, Rowland (d. 1744). Rowland's eldest son was Simon Lloyd (fl. 1730-1764), of Manchester, who later took over Plas yn Dre, following the death of his mother. His eldest son, Simon (fl. 1756-1836), was a Methodist minister. By 1838, Plas yn Dre was held by Simon Lloyd's son, George Price Lloyd (fl. 1834-1866). The estate remained with the Lloyd family until the 20th century.
