Scope and Content

Portrait of Lilian de Lissa, first principal of Gipsy Hill Teacher Training College, by artist Gilbert Spencer. The painting was commissioned by the college as a present for Miss de Lissa and presented to her in a ceremony in October 1953. The portrait has been held by Gipsy Hill Teacher Training College prior to passing to Kingston Polytechnic and Kingston University.

Administrative / Biographical History

Gilbert Spencer was a British artist who painted portraits, landscapes and murals. He was brother to Sir Stanley Spencer.

Please note the frame of the painting is cracked and quite fragile- careful handling required. Gloves will need to be worn.

Painting was presented to Gipsy Hill Teacher Training College, from where it passed to Kingston Polytechnic and then Kingston University
