Scope and Content

A varied collection of material relating to areas in Merioneth created by many individuals.

Material on the history of the parishes of Llandecwyn and Llanfihangel-y-traethau, is believed to be in the hand of Bob Owen, Croesor. A history of the ruined houses of Llidiardau was compiled by Robert Roberts, Cefn Uchaf, Llidiardau and John Hughes of Ty Capel Celyn is the author of memories of the Capel Celyn area from 1870 to 1925.

A typescript of extracts from the commonplace book of Thomas Hartley of Ynys Fechan, Brithdir and his son, John Hartley of Ynysgyffylog, Llangelynnin dating from 1759 to 1797 consists mainly of accounts and farriery recipes. There is also a list of sheep earmarks from the Llidiardau area and a list of the farms in Llanycil parish, along with acreages and other details.

Administrative / Biographical History

No biographical information regarding Owen Lewis of Arthog in the parish of Llangelynnin, Merioneth was available at the time of compilation of description.

Robert Owen, O.B.E., M.A., 1885 - 1962, better known as Bob Owen, Croesor, was an antiquary and book-collector from Llanfrothen, Merioneth.
