Estimate of costings for the construction of the Birmingham to Liverpool Railway, also included is a small newspaper cutting reporting the sale of a plan of the same railway.

George Stephenson (1781-1848) railway engineer, built the first successful steam locomotive and was consultant engineer on the first railways built in the midlands and north of England

Reported in University Librarian's Annual Report 1967/1968. The items appear to have been donated to the Library in 1967 by the Vice Chancellor's Office but an accompanying letter dated 6 February 1901, addressed to the Vice Chancellor from John W. Lea offers them to the University and details the provenance of the estimate. See the deposit file for this acquisition.
