Ernest Brown Foster was born on 14 March 1899 to Marian Lilian Foster. In 1938 he married Elsie M. Gospel who had previously worked as his housekeeper. The couple ran two hotels in Market Weighton, The Griffin and The Bay Horse.
Ernest Foster died in February 1976 at Market Weighton.

Elsie M. Gospel was born on 21 September 1903 to farmer John Gospel and his wife Mary Jane Tindale. In 1938 she married Ernest Brown Foster, having previously worked as his housekeeper. The couple ran two hotels in Market Weighton, The Griffin and The Bay Horse.

Acquisition Information

The archive was gifted to the Borthwick Institute by Keith Walls in September 2019. A further deposit was made to the archive by Mr Walls later that same month.
