Feminist Webs Archives and Resource Centre

The Feminist Webs Archive was set up in September 2008 by a group of young women, feminist youth workers and allies in the North West of the UK. The collection is ever-growing with contributions from older feminist youth workers and consists of photographs, banners, leaflets, magazines, oral “her-stories” with older feminist youth workers carried out by young women, and various other documents that are related to feminist youth work with girls and young women. The archive is made up of a physical collection, but also an online digital collection at www.feministwebs.com. The archive is currently organised into collections based on geographical areas. The collection has been actively used in a range of further projects led by Feminist Webs, and archive materials have been used to create a zine, Fem Zine; and a book, The Exciting Life of Being a Woman: A Handbook for Women and Girls (Hammer/on Press, 2012 available through the website); and some Feminist Webs projects have been documented in short films and animations freely available on the website.

Feminist Webs is a collective of women of all ages formed in 2006 in the North West of the UK to reinvigorate girls work and feminist youth work. Feminist Webs involves young women in youth groups, youth workers, academics, artists; Feminst Webs is a participatory transgenerational project. A key feature of Feminist Webs is that it seeks to reinvigorate girls work through activating histories or herstories of feminist youth work. Feminist Webs has gathered material from youth workers around the North West, and young women have carried out oral history interviews with older feminist youth workers. This material has led to the creation of the Feminist Web archive, which exists in both physical format held at Manchester Metropolitan Univesity, and in an online archive at www.feministwebs.com.
