Administrative / Biographical History
Robert Maxwell McBrair (1808-1874), son of Robert Maxwell McBrair of Govan, Glasgow, a shipping merchant, and Jean Johnstone of North Leith, Edinburgh. He was born in Glasgow, studied at Edinburgh University and became a Wesleyan minister. He worked as a missionary in Africa, during which time he became interested in native languages and compiled guides to the grammar of several including Fulah. He may have been the author of An Apology for Wesley & Methodism, in reply to the Misrepresentation of S Taylor and the North British Review, published in 1852.
