Miss Elizabeth McGill Clark

Miss Elizabeth McGill Clark was born and brought up in Kirkcudbrightshire. Her family had a long connection with the labour movement in the southwest of Scotland. Her grandfather was Bailie David Hutchison McGill, who was successively a member of the British Socialist Party, the Independent Labour Party and the Labour Party in Dumfrieshire, and a councillor in Maxwelltown and, later, Dumfries. Her mother was also active in politics and unsuccessfully stood for Kikcudbright Burgh Council.

In 1969 Miss Clark moved to Dundee. She served as President of the Dundee Local Association of the Educational Institute of Scotland 1976-1977. She was also a prominent activist in the Labour Party, where her work included serving as Secretary of the Ward XI (Broughty Ferry) Branch of the Dundee Labour Party.
