Luton Deed, 1555

Scope and Content

The deed is a single document, dated 20 February in the first year of the reign of Philip and Mary (the second year of Mary's reign) [1555]. It is a receipt for a sum under the will of John Green of Luton by Elizabeth Green, daughter of John Steven of Luton, tailor.

Elizabeth Steven of Luton, Bedfordshire, is the daughter of John Green, tailor, late of Luton, Bedfordshire. John Steven is her husband. Nothing further is known of the Steven and Green families, other than what is contained in this document.
