Brynmawr Petty Sessional Division Licensing Plans

Scope and Content

Plans of licensed houses in the parishes of Brynmawr and Llanelly, Brecknockshire, 1903-1927 and [n. d.].

Administrative / Biographical History

Petty Sessions were introduced in the 18th century as extra courts to lessen the load on the Quarter Sessions. The Sessions were subdivided geographically within the county and were held before two or more magistrates but no jury. As well as dealing with minor criminal cases Petty Sessions had responsibility for the licensing of public houses and as a result plans of licensed houses were deposited with the clerk of the court.
