There is an accompanying letter from D.H. Simpson, R.C.S. Librarian, to the Revd Welbourn, 23 October 1978, regarding the gift of the collection to the Society.

The Revd Frederick Burkewood Welbourn (fl. 1948-1978) was the author of 'East African rebels, a study of some independent churches' (1961), 'Religion and politics in Uganda, 1952-1962' (1965), 'East African Christian' (1965) and, with B.A. Ogot, 'A place to feel at home: a study of two independent churches in western Kenya' (1966).
