Administrative / Biographical History

Bwllfa Lodge was a branch of the National Union of Mineworkers (South Wales Area). It served the miners working at the Bwllfa Dare (No. 1) and Bwllfa No. 2 Collieries in Aberdare.

In 1949, the Bwllfa Dare Colliery was linked to Mardy Colliery as part of a restructuring scheme by the National Coal Board. Bwllfa No.2 was absorbed into Mardy Colliery and ceased to exist as an independent colliery from 1949.

Bwllfa Lodge was formally merged with the Mardy Lodge of the National Union of Mineworkers in 1958.
